Which brings me to this......
Mary as a perpetual virgin, as being put on a pedestal, and being sinless. Three of the most non-biblical beliefs catholics have are that Mary was sinless, she is above all other believers, and that she was a perpetual virgin. We will start with Mary not sinning......
1 John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" Romans 3:10
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" Romans 5:12
.....and then as far as her being the "queen of Heaven".....Placed on a pedestal above all others.......
"For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." Matthew 12:48-50
"... a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." Luke 11:27-28
......then the perpetual virgin......
"Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Matthew 13:55
"Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him." Mark 6:3
"But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother." Galatians 1:19
"And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS." Matthew 1:25
1 John 1:8-10

I see you are at it again with Anthony over on his blog.
Just wanted you to know I'm reading at both your places. :)
PJ,
The greatest error is that it gives to man (or woman) born of sin the standing of sinlessness. If that was so then Mary could have done the work of Christ. And we all know that is impossible.
Be Blessed,
Pete
Excellent point, Bryan

"Whoever believes in Jesus will perform the same works as Jesus does himself, and will perform even greater works." (John 14:12).
Mary could have done the work of Christ because she believed:
"Blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled." (Luke 1:45).
I can't imagine a Lord who keeps His own mother wounded & sinful. If I was the Lord I would never accept that. I wanted to honor my mother. I would redeem her before my death & resurrection.
I don't understand why do you want Mary, the mother of Our Savior, to be marginalized and even forgotten?
Why do feel envy when I honor Jesus' mother?
The impure cannot understand or approach this woman.
If you love this woman, you truly love Jesus. If you disregard this woman, your love & faith in Jesus is superficial, based on emotions, and untrue.
So, anthony, what about Joseph? He had to endure all the same things Mary had to (except the whole birthing thing). God chose Joseph to be the father of His Son. Why do you not praise Joseph as much as Mary?
Anthony, the problem with what you're saying is that it's NOT BIBLICAL. That's the bottom line.
You said:
"I can't imagine a Lord who keeps His own mother wounded & sinful. If I was the Lord I would never accept that. I wanted to honor my mother. I would redeem her before my death & resurrection."
Doesn't really matter what 'you can't imagine.' That doesn't play into anything. You're NOT the Lord, so you cannot project your feelings, your opinions onto a holy and righteous God - whose thoughts and ways are NOT our thoughts and ways. The biblical FACT is that He did not redeem Mary before His death.
Neither PJ nor I are marginalizing Mary, nor are we 'forgetting' her. But the deity-like emphasis that you place on her is also not biblical. She was the imperfect vessel that the perfect Holy Spirit impregnanted to bear the fully God/fully man Christ child.
Plus, if you read Matthew chap 1, you'll see that the lineage of Jesus is traced through Joseph.
Gayla said, [Mary] was the imperfect vessel. This is NOT BIBLICAL.
Without a mother, the family is divided. Without Mary, your churches are divided. Whoever has ears, ought to hear.
