The Miracle of Life
Well, he's here!!! Our beautiful baby boy is here!!!
Monday night around 11:30 pm my wife came out into the living room where I was watching t.v. She said, "thanks a lot." I asked her if she was having more contractions. She said yes, but now they were "painful." She had been having Braxton Hicks contractions (practice contractions) for months and they were getting more previlent, but not painful. At 11:30 they started to come about 6 minutes apart for about 20 minutes. Then they went to 5 minutes apart. Then 4 minutes apart. We decided we should get dressed and head out to the hospital. We got to the hospital at 12:30 am Tuesday(yes, an hour later). By this time, her contractions were 2 to 2 1/2 minutes apart and extremely painful. She was 7 cm dilated when we arrived. We spent about 30 to 40 minutes in Triage before we were moved to a delivery room. At that time she was 8 cm dilated. The contractions were one on top of the other, but they were able to get the epidural in and help her get through some of the pain. They wanted her to try and relax for a while and breathe through her contractions because the doctor was busy delivering another baby at the time. She did the best she could. Right after the other baby was delivered, the doctor came in and she started pushing. She did awesome. She pushed for about 45 minutes total. It truly was amazing watching his head come out. Then the doctor pulled the rest of his body out. Wow!!! He didn't give us much of a cry at first, but when they weighed him he let out quite a holler.
Both mother and baby are doing wonderful. Matthew Lawrence arrived at 4:42 a.m. 5/30/06, weighed in at 7 lb 8 oz, and was 21 inches long.
